Plan Your Slices

Use scout images, viewports, and slice controls to position, move, and orient slices correctly before running your scan.

Prepare for slice planning

  1. Drag your scout images into the viewports.
  2. Add a pulse sequence.
  3. Click the viewport you want to slice plan in.
    • The active viewport is highlighted with a blue frame.

Understand slice planning lines

When slice planning, different colored lines help you understand positioning:

  • Yellow lines
    • Show the slice position in the image.
    • The arrows on the yellow box indicate the Phase Encoding (PE) direction, which is important for avoiding foldover artifacts.
  • Orange lines
    • Show where the active viewport’s plane appears in the other viewports.
  • Blue lines
    • Show where the non-active viewports appear in the current viewport.
  • Dashed line
    • Marks the intersection line between the slice plane and the image.

Change the active viewport

You can switch which viewport you are slice planning in by:

  1. Double-clicking the viewport you want to use, or
  2. Clicking the pulse sequence again in the Pulse Sequence List.

Move and rotate the slice

  1. Click and drag the border of the slice in the viewport to move it.
  2. Rotate the slice by:
    • Scrolling with the mouse wheel, or
    • Pressing Shift + arrow keys.
